MEET THE TEAM

Dr. Philip Ryan (he/him)

Philip J. A. Ryan, M.D., is a board-certified physician with over 40 years of clinical experience in treating the entire spectrum of Endocrine conditions ranging in ages from children to adults. He is the Principal Physician of DELC INC.


Dr. Ryan completed his undergraduate studies at Harvard College in 1971, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry. In 1976, he graduated from Indiana University School of Medicine. Then in 1979, he finished the residency program in Internal Medicine at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN.  


Later, Dr. Ryan returned to his home state of Massachusetts to study at the world-renowned Joslin Diabetes Center (affiliated with Harvard Medical School). At Joslin, he was named Chief Fellow, and completed his Fellowship in Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes in 1981. Returning to Indianapolis, Dr. Ryan started a private practice and subsequently was asked to serve as Medical Director of the first and largest Joslin Diabetes Affiliate in the country.


In 2003, Dr. Ryan was recruited to be the first Endocrinologist in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia to treat the Diabetes epidemic. Currently, he has an appointment as Assistant Professor at West Virginia University School of Medicine.


Dr. Ryan has performed extensive work regarding Continuous Subcutaneous Insulin Infusions (CSII), Glucose Meter, Diabetes Blind Meter, and Implantable Insulin Pump. Dr. Ryan has presented original research at The Endocrine Society and American Diabetes Association.


He is an active member of The Endocrine Society, American Diabetes Association, National Lipid Association, West Virginia State Medical Association, and Eastern Panhandle Medical Society.  


Dr. Ryan is married to media producer Katherine Walsh Ryan. They have two children: Lindsay, an application developer; and Elliott, a writer. 

Katherine Walsh Ryan (she/her)

Katherine Walsh Ryan, M.S., ABC, is an award-winning writer, editor, photographer, and filmmaker. She is a marketing consultant for DELC INC.


Mrs. Ryan is a native of NW Indiana, where she grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan. In 1977, she was graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. After graduation, she served as: corporate magazine editor for a state-wide agribusiness; vice-president for a multi-media advertising agency; hospital spokeswoman; corporate communications director; and marketing director. She has served on numerous community advisory boards. Mrs. Ryan earned her Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) certification from IABC, San Francisco, 1990.


Dr. and Mrs. Ryan met at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where they both worked--he as an Endocrinologist in private practice, and she as the hospital's Director of Marketing. They married in 1991 and have been blessed with two charming and talented children. They moved to the Eastern Panhandle of WV in 2003, to answer the community's healthcare needs.


While enrolled in Leadership Berkeley (Class of 2005), Mrs. Ryan was inspired to study for a Master of Science degree in Strategic Leadership. She completed her studies at Mountain State University in 2006. Later in 2007, she became Founder and President of Ryan Film Institute where she taught Teen Filmmakers’ Workshop on the campus of Shepherd University. Her short films and documentaries have been finalists in regional film festivals. Furthering her educational and career development, she completed Leadership Jefferson in 2016. Mrs. Ryan taught Broadcast Journalism for Jefferson County Schools until the end of the 2020 school year when COVID-19 pandemic hit hard. 


Mrs. Ryan became a Master Gardener and Tree Master through Purdue University and Marion Co. Extension Service. She is currently a member of Dolley Madison Garden Club and serves as its publicity chair.


Mrs. Ryan continues to offer digital marketing and communications skills through Ryan Consulting Services.

Mary Hartshorn (she/her)

Mary Hartshorn, RD, LD, CDE, is a dietitian with 20 years of clinical experience. She is the Diabetes Education and Nutrition Counselor for DELC INC.


After earning a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from West Virginia University, Mrs. Hartshorn became a registered dietitian in 1977.


Mrs. Hartshorn has worked as a clinical dietitian throughout the United States for more than 20 years. In 2005, Mrs. Hartshorn became a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) and began working with DELC INC in her role as Diabetes Education and Nutrition Counselor. 


In addition to her work with Dr. Ryan, Mrs. Hartshorn has served as an Outpatient Nutritional Counselor (17 years), Dialysis Center Dietitian (12 years), Nursing Home Dietitian (10 years), and WIC Dietitian (3 years).


As the founding owner of Dietetic Consulting Services, LLC, (2010 – present), Mrs. Hartshorn also operates as a Consultant Dietitian for the Hospice of the Panhandle, Free Clinic, KD Court, and Meals on Wheels.


Mrs. Hartshorn is married to Rev. Thomas Hartshorn. They have three children: Holly, Joel, and Mark. The Hartshorns are blessed with four grandchildren.


Please note: Mrs. Hartshorn only sees patients on Tuesdays.

Laura Dodd (she/her)

Laura Dodd, MCA, is the Practice Manager of DELC INC and has been operating in that role since May 2021. 


Before serving as Practice Manager, Ms. Dodd worked as Lead Medical Assistant. She began working in that role in 2018, where she learned the ropes of running a medical practice. In the same year, she earned a Medical Assisting Certification from Valley College in Martinsburg, WV. 


Ms. Dodd has four amazing children: Jordynn, Skyla, Nayomi, and Tavaree. 

Bonnie wears glasses and has dark curly hair. She is also wearing scrubs.

Bonnie Hess (she/her)

Bonnie Hess, MCA, is the Lead Medical Assistant of DELC INC and has been working with the practice since 2019. 


In 2018, Bonnie completed her studies at Valley College with Honors and earned her Medical Assisting Certification.


Ms. Hess has four children: Billy, Vicente, Cassandra, and Noah. Her family is blessed with seven grandchildren.

Sierra is sporting a bright smile. She is a younger woman with brown hair. She, too, wears scrubs.

Sierra Walters (she/her)

Sierra Walters is the Office Receptionist for the practice. She has been working at DELC INC since April 2021. She is currently studying to earn her Medical Assisting Certification.  


Ms. Walters is the proud mother of Harmonii, a beautiful baby girl.
